[Spokane, WA, December 04, 2020] – Paint formulations modified with Iasis Molecular Sciences copper-based additive at a concentration of 2.0 wt% (≤0.24 wt.% copper) have been shown to be convincingly antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral.
ASTM E2180 antibacterial evaluations of additive-modified surfaces against an array of gram-negative and gram-positive organisms, including Escherichia coli, MRSA,and Klebsiella pneumoniae have demonstrated statistically significant, continuous high-level disinfection (>4 log reductions) at low levels of additive incorporation.
An ISO 21702:2019 antiviral evaluation of a copper-additive modified acrylic latex enamel coating (≤0.24 wt.% copper) vs. Coronavirus 229E revealed 99.7% virus inactivation within 2-hours and >99.9% inactivation within 24-hours of exposure.
Additionally, the identical surface provided strong inhibition against toxic black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum). The assay was carried out under ideal growth conditions revealing that the coating strongly prevented germination of the organism for a period of 1-month.
IMSC has developed several additives that utilize metals and small molecular organics. The microparticle additives are not yet EPA approved.
